1. Use visuals

When it comes to social media, imagery is your new best friend. It is a well known fact that audiences are more likely to engage with a piece that uses an image or a video. Your social media content needs to be relevant but that doesn’t mean it can’t be fun.

Hashtags are used on the majority of social media so make sure yours are tailored to your brand. Don’t simply look for popular hashtags and place them into every post. You want to reach the right audience. Creating and referring to relevant hashtags can exponentially boost engagement with the right people.

4. Vary your content

You don’t want to only plaster memes of cats on your Twitter page. You also don’t want to bombard your audience with informational posts about your products. What you need is a mixture of both. Variety and consistency in your posts will keep it fresh and engaging. 


5. Ask questions

What’s the best way to get someone to engage with a post? People love to feel like they are a part of something so when a brand they follow asks a question, they can’t wait to get involved. If you are a travel agent, perhaps ask “What was your favourite holiday and why?” Its a simple and great way to get your audience engaged. 



6. Make use of real time events

If you host events, then make sure you’re posting live across your channels throughout the day, tagging in delegates where possible. You can also use a national event to tie your brand into; for example, Wimbledon or the general election. It keeps you up to date and is another way to vary your content.  



7. Keep it short and sweet

No need to bore your audience. Short sentences will do the trick. Keep it snappy, engaging and even a little witty. You can create longer posts for Facebook and LinkedIn but still try to keep it brief. Don’t forget that images speak louder than words. 


8. Watch your tone

Depending on the platform you need to use different tones. Something you would post on Twitter would not necessarily translate well to LinkedIn, for example. Always remain professional but always consider your tone.

If you can facilitate it, then host a competition. “Retweet and follow us to win!” It gets audiences engaged because who doesn’t like winning stuff?

Polls give your audience a chance to feel like they are impacting something. Asking opinions on a certain product or service can really get them engaged and give you some great feedback.
